Hamilton is a fat, middle aged Syrian hamster who lives under the floor of a police station in Chicago, circa 1927. He was once a highly formidable and skilled detective, but lost all enthusiasm and drive when his partner, a plucky young Chinese hamster, was killed in action. Hamilton was paired up with another partner but absolutely failed to get along with him. He now works strictly alone. Now he does the bare minimum of work to get by, and has little to no passion for the cases he is given. Occasionally, something will spark his interest and you can see glimpses of his old self, but for the most part he likes to sleep, eat and drink. He is a regular visitor to the grimy speakeasy, the blind rat, where alcohol is served illegally. Hamilton is a heavy smoker and drinker, and tends to have to be asked to leave eventually otherwise he'd just live at the bar. He has been known to acquire and use drugs from the unsavoury rodents who hang around dark corners trying to sell them. He was something of a womaniser in his day, and eventually found a girl he wanted to spend his life with, but she left him after the death of his partner as she couldn't cope with his apathy anymore. Since this event, Hamilton is very guarded around girls and tends to see them as nothing but trouble, and considers himself far better off without one in his life.
Like all the animals in his world, Hamilton emerges primarily at night and keeps out of the way of humans during the day. The animals secret themselves away under buildings, in warehouses and alleyways. Hamilton has been shot once, stabbed twice, and has some kind of heart condition. Hes unfit, lazy, and doesn't seem to care. He tends to show very little emotion and virtually never smiles anymore. He is very stoic and has an unusually high pain thresh-hold.
He can be obsessive and, since the death of his partner, has obsessed over finding and bringing justice to his killer. Many of his one time friends now worry about him as he tends to spend long hours going over the same information over and over again, not sleeping, barely eating, and smoking excessively in a vain attempt to find some clue he'd missed. He has many enemies, and creatures who want to do away with him, and has survived 2 assassination attempts, so he is justifiably a little paranoid.
On the upside, he is intelligent, has a tendency to notice obscure things that others would miss, and is actually a really good detective, if only he could muster the enthusiasm for the job. He has a sarcastic, dry sense of humour but never so much as smirks at his own jokes.
Nice ref sheet. I like how you used the cityscape in the background, it fits in very well. My hamster is coming up to 1 year old and yeah I've noticed they can be pretty grumpy at times. I think you've made his character very well!

Is it bad that this reminded me a bit of who framed roger rabbit?
But I really do like this, I love the depth given to the character, he really sounds interesting! You always have some of the most intriguing characters! And I also like your reference sheets a lot, so neat and organized. Great work!

Brilliant ref here! Love the first picture of him here,I like how his ears are visible from the side view and the pose is wicked, nice hand anatomy holding the gun there. The clothless refs look amazing too,I love his grim expression and how you did his fur markings (especially the back stripe).
We want to know what love means to you!
Get your creative juices flowing and design a movie poster for "Paper Heart" that focuses on the theme "What Does Love Mean to Me?".
The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!

Have you ever tried animating any of your characters? If you can, I think you could have your own little internet cult series here
